Not often in historic preservation does one take a structure forward in time. Renovated during the 1970’s at the peak of colonial fever, this home was modified from its original state to become a home from the 1770’s rather than from when it was actually built in 1851. Studies of historic photographs and conscientious deconstruction of the 1970’s renovation revealed numerous clues for how to return this home to its full grandeur. The painstaking efforts to restore the windows, masonry, and interior, along with a sensitive design for the new conservatory addition create a harmonious composition bringing the home up to a 21st century standard of luxury living while maintaining the elegance of 19th century design.
