About This Project

The redesign of the public entrance lobby and entertainment spaces following the completion of 401 Massachusetts Avenue provided a unique opportunity to revisit the objective of how to allow the building’s lively exterior design to inform that of the interior volume of spaces. In order to accomplish this, we chose to emulate many of the details exhibited outside. The Tuka Gold limestone tile “shingles” in the entry hall and the salon and clubroom entertainment spaces all recall the overlapping, textural nature of the exterior façades, allowing the residents to experience the idiosyncratic spirit and intrinsic character of the exterior’s exuberant architectural expression, translated and rescaled appropriately for the interior environment of the lobby.
